Royal Jordanian launches first direct Amman-Tashkent route in Uzbekistan link

Royal Jordanian Airlines began operating direct scheduled flights between Amman and Tashkent, creating the first regular air link between the capitals of Jordan and Uzbekistan, the airline said on June 30.

The route deepens connectivity between the Middle East and Central Asia as Uzbekistan expands its international air links and courts new source markets for tourism, building on a visa-free regime agreed between the two countries last year.

The new service is expected to boost tourism, expand business and investment ties and increase passenger traffic between the two nations.

Ahead of the launch, Uzbekistan presented its tourism potential to tour operators, hospitality businesses and Royal Jordanian representatives in Amman.

The presentation highlighted UNESCO World Heritage cities including Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Shakhrisabz, alongside opportunities in eco, gastronomic, medical, business and pilgrimage tourism.

The route follows agreements reached in 2025 between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and King Abdullah II of Jordan, when both countries agreed to introduce a visa-free regime, strengthen economic cooperation and establish an intergovernmental commission and business council.

Why it matters for the trade

The link opens a direct corridor between Jordan and Central Asia, giving tour operators a new routing for combined Middle East and Silk Road itineraries. With visa-free access already agreed, the route lowers a key barrier for two-way leisure and business travel, and signals Uzbekistan’s continuing push to widen its inbound air network beyond established European and regional carriers.
