British Airways cancels Middle East flights and runs Muscat repatriation services amid regional crisis

British Airways has cancelled all flights to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai and Tel Aviv until later in March, and suspended services to and from Abu Dhabi until later in 2026, the carrier announced on March 10.

The airline said the cancellations were due to continuing uncertainty over the Middle East situation and ongoing airspace instability, and that it was keeping the situation under constant review while contacting affected customers to offer alternative options.

British Airways said limited seats remained on repatriation flights from Muscat to London Heathrow on March 11 and 12 for customers with existing bookings. Following those dates the Oman service would pause due to reduced demand but would be kept under review.

The carrier had earlier scheduled additional repatriation flights from Muscat departing at 02:30 local time on March 9, 10, 11 and 12, available to British Airways customers in Oman or the UAE with existing bookings. Affected passengers were directed to a dedicated phone line on +44 203 467 3854.

British Airways urged customers not to travel to any airport unless they held a confirmed booking, and directed passengers to follow the latest safety advice from local authorities and the UK Foreign Office.

The announcement comes as Virgin Atlantic, EasyJet, the Lufthansa Group and a growing number of carriers suspend or curtail Middle East operations, with rising fuel costs and closed airspace across Iran, Iraq and the Gulf forcing airlines to reassess their networks ahead of the summer season.

Earlier this week, the UK also pulled out dependents from the UAE for the first time as tensions across the Gulf continue to affect foreign tourists and residents across the country.
