New Zealand-owned tour operator Active Adventures marked 30 years in business with a statement on September 29 pointing to growing demand for guided, activity-led holidays.

For the trade, the milestone shows a specialist operator that has run active itineraries across five continents for three decades, with trips from New Zealand and Patagonia to the Dolomites, the Himalayas, Iceland, Peru and the Galápagos Islands. The company, founded in Queenstown in 1996, put annual outbound spend on adventure travel at $1.6 trillion. Emerging Travel has also covered rainforest trekking at Brunei’s Labi Forest Reserve.

“We continue to see travelers looking for more than just time away. Our guests want to explore the landscapes, not just look at them,” said Chief Executive Tracey Goodall.

Goodall said guides are central to the product. “A great local guide changes the entire experience. They know when to challenge people, when to encourage them, where the special moments are and how to make guests feel completely looked after along the way.”

The company said it provides the comfort, care and expert support so guests can focus on experiencing a destination actively.

Active Adventures is New Zealand-owned and operated and based in Queenstown.
