Egypt Bets on Golf Tourism With 20 International Tournaments Planned for 2026

The Egyptian Golf Federation will host 20 international tournaments in 2026 as part of a campaign to promote sports tourism and support the national economy, federation president Omar Hisham Talaat said.

Talaat said the schedule splits into 11 tournaments in the first half of the year and nine in the second half, forming part of a broader plan to strengthen Egypt’s position on the global golf tourism map. He said hosting the events is designed to draw players and foreign delegations into the country while promoting Egyptian tourist destinations through the international media coverage that accompanies major sporting fixtures.

Talaat pointed to a recent Asian Development Tour tournament hosted at Madinaty Golf Club as an early marker of the plan’s traction, noting the event drew players representing more than 30 nationalities. He said the tournament’s international reach helped place Egypt firmly on the global sports tourism map.

Looking ahead, Talaat outlined further fixtures on the calendar, including the Arab Junior and Youth Championship, expected to attract broad regional participation, followed by the Arab Senior Championship. The schedule also includes the return of the MENA Golf Tour to Egypt, which will stage two tournaments in the country this year.

Talaat said the cumulative effect of these events is intended to strengthen Egypt’s international presence and support the federation’s wider effort to market the country as a golf tourism destination. The push builds on a run of recent initiatives from the federation, including the launch of the “Egypt Golf Series” earlier this year, an effort to bring international tournaments together under one umbrella spanning competition, tourism and investment, and comments from Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy that international sports events have generated close to 2mn tourist nights for Egypt since 2019.
