Egypt to Raise Entry Visa Fee to $33 From January 1, 2027

Egypt’s single-entry visa fee will rise from $30 to $33 starting January 1, 2027, according to a circular issued by the Egyptian Travel Agents Association confirming a Cabinet decision taken in August.

Circular No. 173/2026, distributed to tourism industry professionals, confirms that an Egyptian Cabinet decision dated August 13, 2026 approved a $3 increase in entry and transit visa fees. The circular states that a single-entry visa will cost $33, with an additional $6 in service, issuance and banking fees, including taxes, potentially applying on top of that.

The new circular resolves uncertainty created by an earlier decree published over the summer, which set a $15 fee on entry and transit visas effective the same date. Read alone, that figure raised concern the full $15 might be added to the current $30 fee, pushing the total to $45. In practice, that $15 fee was already baked into the existing visa price at $12, meaning the increase to $15 represents an actual rise of just $3, consistent with the new circular’s confirmation.

The situation differs slightly for travellers using Egypt’s new digital visa on arrival system, piloted at Cairo International Airport since August 2026, which replaces the traditional visa sticker with a QR code obtained online in advance or via self-service kiosks. That process currently costs $36, made up of the $30 visa fee plus $6 in digital service charges. From January 1, 2027, the total will rise to $39, reflecting the new $33 visa fee plus the same $6 service charge. Whether all travellers eventually pay $39 remains unclear, as the digital system is still being assessed in Cairo ahead of a planned, gradual rollout to other airports and border crossings.

A further distinction applies to Egypt’s e-Visa, applied for and approved before travel through the Ministry of Interior’s official portal, which should not be confused with the airport digital visa on arrival. That portal currently lists fees of $30 for a single-entry tourist e-Visa and $65 for a multiple-entry version, with no updated 2027 pricing yet published. It remains unconfirmed, therefore, whether the standard e-Visa obtained ahead of travel will also rise to $33, or to what extent its pricing will mirror the airport system’s increase.
