AJet, the low-cost subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, has launched a direct service between Ankara and Sarajevo, making the Bosnian capital the Turkish carrier’s third destination from the city after Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and Bodrum.
The route operates three times weekly using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with flights departing Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 10:25 and arriving into Sarajevo at 11:35, with the return departing at 19:00 and landing back in Ankara at 22:00.
The launch adds a capital-to-capital connection that has until now been absent from the two countries’ air network. Ankara, seat of the Turkish government and home to over five million people, has long been under-served on Balkan routes compared to Istanbul, making the new service a meaningful addition for both business and leisure travellers.
AJet, which operated its first flight on March 31, 2024, now serves 100 destinations across 39 domestic and 61 international points. The Sarajevo route is part of a broader expansion that has seen the carrier move aggressively into the Balkans. The airline has designated Milas-Bodrum Airport as its third operational base for the 2026 summer season, launching direct flights to 22 destinations including 14 routes in Europe. Bazaar Times
Sarajevo is emerging as an increasingly sought-after destination for Turkish travellers, with strong cultural and religious ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye underpinning consistent passenger demand. The city’s Ottoman heritage, its mosques and its position as a crossroads of East and West have made it a natural draw for visitors from across the Turkish-speaking world.
During its first two years of operation, AJet added 56 new routes across 19 countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia, and is the leading international carrier operating from Ankara, serving 32 destinations across 24 countries from Esenboğa Airport.
