Portugal’s Algarve signs on as supporter of 2026 Solheim Cup

Visit Algarve, the tourism board promoting Portugal’s southern coast, has partnered with the 2026 Solheim Cup as a Proud Supporter, aiming to raise the region’s profile among international golf travellers, the board said in August.

The tie-up gives the Algarve exposure to a high-value golf audience as it works to hold its place among Europe’s leading year-round golf destinations, a market where inbound operators increasingly compete on experiences beyond the course as much as on the courses themselves.

The 2026 Solheim Cup, the biennial team match between the best women professionals from Europe and the United States, runs from September 11 to 13 at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, the Netherlands. It is the first time the event has been held on Dutch soil. Team Europe, captained by Anna Nordqvist, features the English players Charley Hull and Lottie Woad, with Mel Reid among the vice-captains.

“We are delighted to see the Algarve associated with the Solheim Cup, one of the most important events in women’s golf worldwide,” said André Gomes, President of the Algarve Tourism Board. He said the partnership connects the region with an international audience that shares its passion for the game.

Gomes said the board wants golfers to find that the destination offers more than its courses. “It offers an experience to enjoy before, after and beyond the round,” said Gomes.

The board said the partnership forms part of its international golf promotion strategy, pairing the region’s courses and tourism infrastructure with gastronomy, nature, culture and wellness. It said the Algarve keeps a strong reputation among international golfers and good playing conditions across the year.

The campaign runs under a single message: come for the golf, stay for everything else.
