Saudi Arabia’s AMAALA recognised by Global Wellness Institute report

Red Sea Global’s AMAALA wellness destination has been recognised by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) in a report on developments shaping the future of wellness-focused living, the developer said in a statement on May 19.

AMAALA was featured in the GWI’s Build Well to Live Well: Case Studies, Volume 2, which highlighted eight developments worldwide. The report was presented at the 2026 Wellness Real Estate and Communities Symposium in New York.

The report recognised AMAALA, alongside the Red Sea Global headquarters, for its approach to sustainability, wellness and environmentally conscious design.

“Being recognised by the Global Wellness Institute alongside the world’s most advanced wellness developments is a testament to our mission to create destinations that not only protect and restore nature, but also promote the wellbeing of everyone who experiences them,” Stephen Cheesebrough, head of development at Red Sea Global, said.

AMAALA’s residential offering includes 349 units in its first phase, featuring a selection of villas operated by Red Sea Global alongside branded residences managed by longevity, wellness and luxury hospitality operators including Clinique La Prairie, Equinox, Jayasom, Six Senses, Four Seasons and Rosewood.

The development draws on the surrounding Red Sea environment for its architecture and landscaping, with renewable energy and water recycling systems integrated across the site. Red Sea Global’s Botanica Nursery, described as the largest landscape nursery in the Middle East, supports the cultivation of native plant species.

The report, authored by GWI researchers Ophelia Yeung and Katherine Johnston, also highlighted Red Sea Global’s focus on workforce wellbeing, including purpose-built accommodation and wellness amenities for employees.

AMAALA sits on Saudi Arabia’s north-western coast and is one of the tourism giga-projects under the Vision 2030 economic diversification programme. The destination will also feature The Marina Village, the Corallium Marine Life Institute and the AMAALA Yacht Club.

Why it matters for the trade

For agents and operators, the GWI recognition gives AMAALA a third-party credential to sell against in the crowded luxury wellness segment, where buyers increasingly scrutinise sustainability claims. The clustering of longevity and wellness brands such as Clinique La Prairie and Six Senses on a single destination supports a multi-property wellness circuit, though AMAALA remains in development and is not yet fully open to guests.
