Historic Hotels of America has named Xanterra Travel Collection chief executive Andrew N. Todd as the recipient of its 2026 Legacy of Innovation and Inspiration Award, the organisation said.

Todd has led Xanterra for more than 30 years, building a group that spans historic hotels, national park lodges, the Grand Canyon Railway, cruises, adventure travel and destination experiences. The award recognises a leadership model that ties heritage hotels and park lodging to environmental standards, including the company’s A Softer Footprint programme.

“For more than three decades, his leadership of Xanterra Travel Collection has demonstrated how historic preservation, environmental responsibility, and exceptional hospitality can work together to protect America’s treasured destinations,” said Lawrence Horwitz, executive vice president of Historic Hotels of America.

The award will be presented at the Historic Hotels Awards of Excellence Ceremony and Gala during the 2026 Historic Hotels Annual Conference at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia, on October 15.

“The places we care for are more than buildings or destinations,” Todd said. “They are part of America’s story.”

Previous recipients include Philip Anschutz, Horst Schulze, Stephanie Stuckey and Peter Strebel. This year’s honours coincide with three anniversaries: 150 years since the founding of the Fred Harvey Company in 1876, 125 years of the Grand Canyon Railway and 100 years of Historic Route 66.
