Intrepid Travel has become one of the first travel companies globally to certify under B Lab’s new V2 Standards for B Corp Certification, the company said on September 22.
The certification arrives days before the European Union’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive takes effect on September 27, legislation aimed at tackling greenwashing through unsubstantiated environmental claims. B Lab’s revised standards replace the organisation’s previous points-based assessment model with mandatory performance requirements across seven Impact Topics, including climate action, human rights, and fair work and justice, incorporating independent third-party verification.
Intrepid’s certification covers 93 entities across 94 countries, including its Stay Intrepid portfolio of owned accommodation properties in Australia and Morocco, which formed part of the B Corp assessment for the first time. The inclusion required Intrepid to demonstrate environmental performance across areas including water management, waste and circular systems at those properties.
“B Corp Certification has never been a badge for Intrepid. It is a framework that helps us keep improving,” said Intrepid chief executive officer James Thornton. “The new standards set a higher bar, at exactly the moment the world needs companies to do more.”
Thornton said the certification did not require the company to change its practices to meet the criteria, but reflected ongoing improvements and deeper policy implementation across its global operations. “We haven’t changed to meet these criteria, but we have made improvements, embedded policies deeply, and ensured we have systems in place to support these across all parts of our global operations,” he said.
Intrepid first achieved B Corp certification in 2018 and has since reported average annual growth of 20%, excluding the pandemic years, alongside continued investment in areas including human rights, worker policies, supplier engagement, climate advocacy and community investment through The Intrepid Foundation. The recertification follows a record financial performance for the company in 2025, and comes as the global B Corp movement approaches 10,000 certified companies across 100 countries.
