Japan’s tourism and food offer has been promoted at a US event designed to highlight the country’s regional diversity and culinary appeal to international travellers.
The Japan Tourism Agency said the event showcased the range of experiences available across the country, from local food culture to destination-based tourism products aimed at visitors seeking more than the established gateway cities.
Japanese cuisine remains one of the country’s strongest tourism assets, with regional dishes, seasonal ingredients and food-led itineraries increasingly used to encourage travellers to explore beyond the best-known urban centres.
The promotion comes as Japan continues to benefit from strong inbound travel demand, helped by a weak yen, improved air connectivity and sustained interest in culture, food, shopping and nature-based travel.
For tourism authorities, the challenge is to spread demand more evenly across regions while maintaining the appeal of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and other headline destinations.
The US remains an important long-haul source market for Japan, and food-focused promotion has become a key part of efforts to convert cultural interest into regional travel.
