Tanzanian safari operator Lemala Camps & Lodges has launched “Migration 365”, a year-round campaign aimed at drawing travellers to the Serengeti outside the July–October peak season for river crossings, the company said on October 20.
The campaign centres on what Lemala calls “migration literacy”, with guides explaining how rainfall, grazing, calving and predator behaviour drive the herds’ movements, rather than focusing on the Mara River crossings alone. Lemala said it aims to increase interest in historically overlooked months and support its camps and guiding teams throughout the year.
Lemala’s camps cover different stages of the cycle: Ndutu Tented Camp in the southern calving grounds from December to March, Ewanjan Tented Camp in Seronera from April to June, and Mara Tented Camp and Kuria Hills Lodge in the northern Serengeti from July to October. Kuria Hills was refurbished ahead of the 2026 season with a new two-bedroom family suite, while Nanyukie Lodge in the eastern Serengeti operates year-round.
“The months outside the traditional peak season are not an absence of the Migration; they are essential chapters of it,” said Leanne Haigh, chief executive of Lemala Camps & Lodges.
Lemala operates camps and lodges across the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire in Tanzania and on the River Nile in Uganda, and is part of South African tourism group Tourvest. Safari operators across Africa are investing in new product, including Chiefs Tented Camps’ 485-tent camp in a Big Five reserve.
