Marriott (MAR) to develop nine new properties across Egypt

Marriott International has signed an agreement with Misr Italia Properties and People & Places to develop nine hotel and branded residential projects across Egypt, representing more than 1,500 keys, the companies announced on July 27.

The signing ceremony took place at government headquarters in New Alamein City, under the auspices of Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and was attended by Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy and Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Minister Randa El-Menshawy, alongside senior executives from all three companies.

The nine properties, spanning five hotels and four branded residential developments, will be located in Ras El Hekma on Egypt’s North Coast, West Cairo, East Cairo, Ain Sokhna and the New Administrative Capital. They will operate under Marriott’s luxury and premium brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection and Autograph Collection. At Ras El Hekma, plans include a 170-room Ritz-Carlton hotel alongside 268 Ritz-Carlton Residences at The Med Ras El Hekma, and a 180-room Autograph Collection hotel with 250 branded residences at the neighbouring Solare Ras El Hekma development.

“Egypt remains a strategic growth market for Marriott underpinned by strong tourism fundamentals, expanding infrastructure and increasing demand for premium hospitality and branded residential experiences,” said Shady Hassan, Marriott International’s vice president of development for North Africa.

Mohamed Khaled El Assal, chief executive officer of Misr Italia Properties and co-founder of People & Places, said the agreement built on the companies’ long-term commitment to the Egyptian market. “This agreement underscores our long-term commitment to the market and our confidence in the country’s continued growth trajectory,” he said.

The projects represent investment exceeding EGP56.7bn ($1.16bn) and are expected to create around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs, while aiming to welcome approximately 373,000 tourists annually once operational. The deal builds on a 2022 agreement between Marriott and Misr Italia covering Marriott Executive Apartments and Westin Residences within the Il Bosco development in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital, part of a wider plan by Misr Italia and People & Places to build a portfolio of around 50 hospitality assets by 2037.

The announcement comes as Egypt’s tourism sector continues to grow, with 6.1mn arrivals recorded between January and April 2026, a 7% rise on the same period last year and a record for the opening four months of any year.
