Marriott opens its first Morocco resort at Taghazout Bay

Marriott Hotels has opened the Taghazout Bay Marriott Resort on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, marking the brand’s first resort property in the country and its first foothold in one of the kingdom’s most ambitious coastal destinations.

The resort officially opened on July 1, situated a few kilometres north of Agadir within the Taghazout Bay development, a planned destination that has grown over recent years into an integrated tourism zone built around surf, wellness, golf and outdoor living. 7news Morocco

The property offers 250 rooms, including 29 suites, all with private terraces or balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, landscaped gardens or the resort’s swimming pools. The design draws on the textures and materials of the Moroccan Atlantic coast, with natural stone, raw wood and handcrafted textiles produced by local artisans throughout the interiors.

Three restaurants anchor the food and beverage offer. Rivage serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes, Salt and Lime offers poolside dining with a Californian and Mexican coastal influence, while Brasa, the signature restaurant, specialises in fire cooking with views over the Atlantic. Guests also have access to four outdoor pools, two padel courts, landscaped gardens and a fitness centre. A spa and Kids’ Club are planned to open later this summer as a second phase of development.

The resort is also targeting the meetings and events market, with a 450 square metre ballroom capable of hosting up to 540 guests alongside several dedicated meeting rooms.

With the resort now open, Taghazout Bay’s total accommodation capacity has reached around 5,016 beds, representing close to 17% of the overall lodging supply in the Agadir destination.

Ronny Maier, Regional Vice President for Southern Europe and Northwest Africa at Marriott International, described the opening as a significant moment for the brand in Morocco. “This is our first Marriott Resort in the country,” he said, adding that it reflected the company’s confidence in Morocco’s tourism potential and the growing appeal of Taghazout Bay to international visitors.

Denis Laus, General Manager of the resort, said the property had been designed with the surrounding environment in mind. “We imagined a place open to its surroundings, where design, gastronomy and life experiences naturally engage with the identity of the region,” he said.
