Nigeria’s civil aviation authority has inaugurated a new inter-agency body to oversee aviation security risks, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced, as the country moves toward a risk-based oversight model aligned with international standards, local media reported on February 27.
NCAA is Nigeria’s designated aviation security authority, responsible for the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP), which incorporates ICAO Annex 17 SARPs and Annex 9 facilitation standards.
Director-General Chris Najomo inaugurated the National Aviation Security Risk Management Team (NASRMT) at the NCAA’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, describing it as a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation security framework.

Najomo said the body was designed to address unlawful interference, terrorism, insider threats and emerging risks across Nigeria’s civil aviation sector, which has come under criticism in recent years in some quarters inside the country.
The team’s creation aligns with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), specifically the provisions of Annex 17 on aviation security, and follows recommendations from a recently concluded ICAO Risk Management Workshop.
Members of the NASRMT pledged full commitment to keeping Nigeria’s civil aviation sector safe and globally compliant.
