TUI Airways to launch first UK nonstop flights to Zanzibar in Tanzania from London Gatwick

TUI Airways is to begin the first direct flights from the United Kingdom to Zanzibar, launching a twice-weekly service from London Gatwick on November 3, 2027, as the operator responds to growing demand for long-haul winter sun alternatives.

The service will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays from November 3, 2027 until March 22, 2028, with TUI becoming the first UK operator to offer nonstop flights to the archipelago. Nomad Lawyer Bookings open on July 2 as part of TUI’s wider winter 2027/28 programme, which covers more than 50 destinations and 2,000 hotels. The tip was first reported by aviation analyst Sean Moulton.

The operator believes Zanzibar offers a more affordable alternative to Indian Ocean staples such as the Maldives and Mauritius. TUI already operates eight hotels on the island, including TUI BLUE Bahari Zanzibar and The Mora Zanzibar, as well as partner properties operated by RIU and JAZ. Nomad Lawyer

Safari combinations will be available, pairing Zanzibar resort stays with short flights to Nyerere and Serengeti national parks in East Africa.

Known as the Spice Island, Zanzibar offers white-sand beaches, forests, mangroves and flat grasslands within an hour’s drive of each other. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town in Zanzibar City adds a rich cultural dimension to the destination. Aviation Week Network
