WTTC signs Egypt’s tourism authority as a destination partner

The World Travel & Tourism Council has signed the Egyptian Tourism Authority as a destination partner, deepening ties with one of the sector’s largest heritage markets as Egypt pushes to broaden its visitor base.

Destination partnerships like this are less about the announcement and more about distribution. For the ETA, WTTC membership buys a seat at the table with the chief executives of the hotel groups, carriers and OTAs that actually move volume, which matters as Egypt tries to convert its heritage pull into repeat, higher-value and off-Nile business.

The partnership is aimed at promoting sustainable tourism growth, strengthening public-private collaboration and showcasing Egypt’s range of experiences to travellers, investors and industry stakeholders. The authority, which leads Egypt’s international destination marketing, is chaired at board level by the minister of tourism and antiquities and draws on leaders from across the country’s tourism, aviation, hospitality and heritage sectors.

Egypt’s tourism offer spans its ancient cultural heritage and museums, Red Sea resorts, luxury and wellness experiences, yachting and adventure tourism. The authority said the WTTC tie-up would help expand its international reach across priority markets and support its wider push to diversify source markets and lift the country’s global competitiveness.

WTTC president and chief executive Gloria Guevara said Egypt was one of the world’s most remarkable destinations, with an extraordinary legacy of history and culture, and that the council looked forward to working with the authority to advance sustainable growth. Egyptian Tourism Authority chief executive Ahmed Youssef said joining as a destination partner reflected Egypt’s commitment to closer collaboration with the global industry and the private sector, and would open new opportunities across priority markets.

The council is the global private-sector body representing travel and tourism, with members drawn from the leadership of major hotels, airlines, airports, cruise lines, tour operators and technology platforms. The Egyptian authority, established in 1981 and affiliated with the tourism and antiquities ministry, handles the country’s destination marketing and private-sector engagement. WTTC’s next Global Summit is due to be held in Malta in October.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is the global body representing the private sector of Travel & Tourism and the leading authority on the sector’s economic and social contribution worldwide. Its members include Chairmen, Presidents and CEOs of the world’s leading travel and tourism companies across hotels, airlines, airports, cruise lines, tour operators, technology platforms and destinations, spanning every major region globally.
