Marriott reshuffles Lima luxury hotels in Peru portfolio overhaul

Marriott

Marriott International (MAR) will convert two of its Lima properties into higher-tier luxury brands by 2028, the US hotel group said in a statement on May 14, bringing the Ritz-Carlton name to Peru for the first time.

The current JW Marriott Hotel Lima in Miraflores will be rebranded as The Ritz-Carlton, Lima, becoming only the second Ritz-Carlton in South America. The existing Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center in the Paseo Begonias development in San Isidro will be converted into a new JW Marriott Hotel Lima.

The Ritz-Carlton Lima will join a regional portfolio of more than 10 properties spanning Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and the Caribbean. Marriott’s JW Marriott brand operates 17 hotels across Latin America, including locations in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Panama.

“The transformation of the two properties represents a milestone for the evolution of hospitality in Lima and reinforces the city’s growing presence on the global travel map as a dynamic urban center,” Walter Regidor, Regional Vice President for Central and South America at Marriott International, said in a statement.

Lima has gained ground as a Latin American luxury destination on the back of its culinary reputation, with three of the city’s restaurants, Maido, Central and Kjolle, featuring in recent editions of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

The conversions add to Marriott’s existing Peruvian luxury footprint, which includes Tambo del Inka, JW Marriott El Convento Cusco and Palacio del Inka in Cusco, along with Hotel Paracas on the southern coast.

Paseo Begonias, the mixed-use district hosting the relocated JW Marriott, combines office, retail and hospitality space in Lima’s San Isidro business district.
