SON Estrella Galicia Posidonia, a 350-guest music festival, returns to Spain’s Formentera on October 2-4 for its 10th edition, brewer Estrella Galicia said on September 28.

The October dates fall after the Balearic island’s summer peak, when it regulates vehicle access through its Formentera.eco scheme. The festival sells a small-capacity package of concerts, guided land and sea routes and local food, as Spain heads for 100mn tourist arrivals and resorts on neighbouring Ibiza bet on gastronomy to draw higher-spending guests.

The line-up stays secret until the festival begins, with established and emerging international artists playing in unannounced locations. This year’s edition, themed around (re)discovering Posidonia, revisits artists and venues from earlier years.

Across its first nine editions the festival organised more than 30 land and sea routes with over 50 local experts, and worked with more than 140 local businesses and organisations. More than 30 restaurants and chefs contributed to its food programme, which is built around local produce.

It has hosted 78 artists, 83 concerts and 17 DJ sets, with acts including The Vaccines, Jorge Drexler and Los Bitchos.

The organisers say it is the only music festival in the world to have held TRUE Zero Waste Platinum certification, the highest level awarded by Green Business Certification Inc, for three consecutive years. It has been a zero-emissions event since 2021 and supports the Save Posidonia Project, which protects the island’s oceanic seagrass meadows.

Estrella Galicia is brewed by Corporacion Hijos de Rivera, a family-owned drinks group founded in A Coruna in 1906.
