Wego has partnered with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi to promote the UAE capital to travellers across the Middle East and North Africa, the company said on September 29.
The campaign comes as Gulf destinations compete for regional short-haul demand and try to convert online travel searches into bookings. Abu Dhabi is using airline access, cultural attractions and events to build a larger share of leisure traffic from nearby markets.
Wego said the campaign would use digital advertising and travel data to connect travellers with bookable flights and hotel stays in Abu Dhabi. The promotion will cover attractions including Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island theme parks, Al Ain Region and the Rub’ al Khali.
Mamoun Hmidan, chief business officer at Wego, said the partnership would use the company’s market intelligence and reach across MENA to turn traveller interest into bookings.
Abdulla Yousuf, director of international operations at DCT Abu Dhabi, said demand was growing for culturally focused trips closer to home.
“Abu Dhabi is always ready to welcome travellers with exceptional infrastructure, rich heritage, and a year-round calendar of world-class events,” Yousuf said in the statement.
Wego is dual-headquartered in Singapore and Dubai and operates travel booking marketplace Wego, business travel platform WegoPro and MENA-focused bedbank WegoBeds.
