Three in four travellers complete their ESTA, UK ETA or eTA applications correctly the first time, according to new findings from Service eVisa.

The company’s eVisa Index found that 76% of travellers entered the details required for electronic travel authorisations accurately on the first attempt, based on more than 10,000 applications.

Passport information was identified as the most common source of mistakes, underlining how small errors in names, numbers, dates or document details can create problems for travellers before departure.

The findings come as more destinations move towards digital entry authorisations and pre-travel screening systems. For travellers, that has added a new planning step before flights, accommodation and transfers can be treated as final.

Electronic travel authorisations have become increasingly important for short-stay travel, including systems used by the US, UK, Canada and other destinations. The data suggests most travellers are adapting, but a sizeable minority still need corrections or support before approval.

For the travel industry, the findings point to the growing importance of clear pre-trip information as digital border requirements become a routine part of international travel.
