Marriott opens Fortuna of Cappadocia as Autograph Collection lands in Türkiye’s hot air balloon capital

Cappadocia

Marriott International has opened Fortuna of Cappadocia, Autograph Collection in Uçhisar, bringing its independent-hotel soft brand to one of Türkiye‘s most photographed and fastest-growing leisure destinations.

The 153-key property, announced on July 9, comprises 125 rooms and suites plus 28 private villas, positioned on the Uçhisar plateau overlooking the region’s valleys and rock formations. It joins Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 300 independent properties retained under their own identities.

The hotel takes its name from the Roman goddess of fortune and pitches itself at the upper end of the Cappadocia market, which has historically been dominated by small cave hotels and boutique conversions. Food and beverage outlets include the all-day restaurant Fortuna Table, the Le Dome bar, a lobby lounge and the seasonal rooftop Fortuna Terrace, alongside Le Privé, a private wine cellar and cigar lounge, and the Grand Cabaret, a dinner-and-show venue with its own stage hosting live performances on selected evenings.

The property also houses the Fortuna Convention Hall for meetings and private events, and a spa and wellness centre of around 1,112 square metres with an indoor pool, a traditional Turkish hammam and treatment rooms.

“The property is set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most storied landscapes and designed for guests to truly connect to the unique destination,” said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, vice president, premium, select and midscale brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott International.

The hotel participates in Marriott Bonvoy, allowing members to earn and redeem points on stays.

Why it matters for the trade

Cappadocia has long punched above its weight in demand and below it in branded supply. The region’s inventory is fragmented across hundreds of independent cave hotels, which suits the boutique market but leaves tour operators, MICE planners and luxury travel advisors short of options with international brand standards, meaningful room counts and loyalty-programme distribution.

A 153-key Autograph Collection property changes that calculation. It gives agents a bookable, commissionable product on Marriott’s global platform in a destination where availability during balloon season is chronically tight, and the 28 villas add a genuine top-tier option for high-net-worth itineraries that previously defaulted to Istanbul or the Bodrum coast for their luxury nights.

The convention hall is worth noting for incentive planners. Cappadocia is a natural incentive destination, with ballooning, valley dinners and cave venues, but has lacked branded properties able to host a full group under one roof. This opening, together with the entertainment-led Grand Cabaret concept, suggests Marriott sees the region as an experiences destination rather than a one-night stopover, and gives DMCs a stronger anchor property to build programmes around. For Turkish tourism more broadly, a soft-brand flag of this size in Anatolia signals that international operators’ expansion in Türkiye is moving decisively beyond Istanbul and the coastal resorts.
