Fort George Belize has joined Marriott International’s (NASDAQ:MAR) Autograph Collection ahead of a 66-key tower taking it to 130 rooms, the hotel said on November 5.
The expansion more than doubles the waterfront property’s 64 rooms and suites and adds meeting space. Its Lord Ashcroft Centre already offers 6,815 sq ft (633 sq m) of event space for up to 500 guests. The new tower adds about 4,500 sq ft (418 sq m) of indoor and outdoor venues.
The Signature Sea View Tower, designed by Arguelles Architects, is due to open later this autumn. It includes two Signature Sea View Penthouses, a waterfront swimming pool and a retail boutique.
The new meeting venues are Lubaantun, a boardroom with an adjoining outdoor deck, and The Canopy Terrace on the fourth floor.
Marea, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, will join the existing Treehouse restaurant. A lobby concept called The George will serve speciality coffee by day and cocktails made with Belizean botanicals at night.
The hotel sits in the historic Fort George neighbourhood of Belize City. Existing facilities include K’IN Spa and the BurnBox Gym.
Marriott also plans to convert a Westin on Fiji’s Denarau Island into a 282-key JW Marriott, due to open in the first quarter of 2027.
