Canadian carrier Porter Airlines has become the preferred airline partner of Blue Rewards, the loyalty programme run by Bank of Montreal (TSX:BMO), the companies said on September 24.
The deal gives the bank’s programme, which replaced Air Miles for BMO customers when it went live in June, an airline anchor in a Canadian market where rival Air Canada ties its Aeroplan scheme to bank co-brand cards. For Porter, it opens a channel into a member base Blue Rewards puts in the millions, adding to the cross-sector loyalty tie-ups airlines have been signing with banks and hotel groups.
Members who link their Blue Rewards and VIPorter accounts earn one additional VIPorter point for every CAD2 spent on Porter flights, excluding taxes and fees, or one point per CAD1 when paying with an eligible BMO card. That sits on top of a base earn of five to seven points per dollar, which the companies say lets linked members earn VIPorter points up to 20% faster. Linking also brings a welcome bonus of 500 points in each programme.
“By connecting their Blue Rewards and VIPorter accounts, Members can earn points faster and enjoy additional benefits along the way,” said Jennifer Hawkins, President of Blue Rewards.
Members redeeming Blue Points for Porter flights through Blue Rewards Travel, powered by Expedia, earn bonus Blue Points by booking value: 1,000 points on flights up to CAD350, 3,750 points between CAD351 and CAD450 and 7,500 points above CAD450. Holders of eligible BMO cards can earn up to 1,500 further bonus points on such redemptions until November 30.
In the coming months, linked members will also be able to convert Blue Points into VIPorter points at a ratio of 2:1.
“VIPorter is a distinct and value-focused program,” said Edmond Eldebs, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Porter. “As the preferred airline partner of Blue Rewards, we are giving members more reasons to choose Porter and to enjoy our elevated economy experience more often.”
Porter, founded in 2006 and headquartered at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, flies De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops and Embraer E195-E2 jets across Canada, the US, Mexico and the Caribbean. It already works with BMO on the BMO VIPorter Mastercard, launched in 2025, and took delivery of its 50th E195-E2 in December 2025.
