Uzbekistan and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq have agreed to deepen tourism ties, following a meeting between S. Bobokalonov, deputy chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Gailan Saeed Aziz, president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on July 18.
The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation and the potential for greater tourism exchange between the two destinations, according to the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan.
Both parties backed closer direct cooperation between tour operators from the two countries, with a focus on developing joint tourism products across cultural heritage, family and pilgrimage tourism. Investment cooperation also featured in the discussions.
Representatives of the Iraqi business community were invited to take part in tourism infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan, including the development of mountain resorts and hotel complexes.
The Iraqi delegation was also invited to attend the Tashkent International Tourism Fair, a regional platform for business partnerships and B2B meetings within the tourism sector.
No timeline or financial details for the proposed infrastructure projects were disclosed.
