Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport will resume operations in November ahead of the Saudi Super Cup, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah said, Kuwaiti daily Al-Jarida reported on October 13.
The reopening restores a second passenger building at the country’s main gateway as football travellers from Saudi Arabia arrive for the matches. No date within November was given, and the airlines that will use the terminal were not named.
Sheikh Fahad spoke after attending the signing of the government partner sponsorship agreement for the Saudi Super Cup at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium. The sponsor and the match dates were not disclosed.
The Interior Ministry has taken several steps to ease the arrival of Saudi fans, he said, including expanding capacity at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, where 20 dedicated counters will serve travellers.
Players and administrative staff taking part in the matches are exempt from biometric fingerprinting at the airport. They will receive special identification cards for entering and leaving Kuwait.
Emerging Travel has previously reported on the resumption of Jazeera Airways flights at Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 5.
