FLYONE Armenia has placed its first direct aircraft order with Airbus, signing for two A321neo jets as the carrier prepares for further route growth.
The order, finalised on September 30, follows a memorandum of understanding announced during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Yerevan on May 5. Airbus said the aircraft will be powered by CFM International LEAP engines and configured with 239 all-economy seats.
The deal gives Armenia’s largest carrier new long-range narrowbody capacity and marks a step up in its fleet strategy. FLYONE Armenia was established in 2021 and currently operates 11 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
Chief executive Aram Khachatryan said the first direct Airbus order was “an important and symbolic milestone” for the airline and reflected its commitment to fleet modernisation and long-term growth. He said the aircraft would support the airline’s development, Armenia’s civil aviation sector and international cooperation.
Airbus said the order showed FLYONE Armenia’s commitment to operational performance and passenger comfort as it expands its A320 Family fleet.
The A321neo is the largest member of the A320neo Family and is pitched by Airbus as offering longer range and improved fuel performance. Airbus says the A320 Family has won more than 20,000 orders globally and offers at least 20% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions than previous-generation single-aisle aircraft.
For Armenia’s aviation market, the order is significant because it adds larger-capacity aircraft at a time when Yerevan is trying to strengthen its role as a regional air gateway. More efficient narrowbodies could give FLYONE Armenia room to develop denser leisure routes and longer sectors from the Caucasus.
