Scottish ministers are seeking up to three non-executive directors for Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL), the state-owned airport operator said on October 28.
The appointments would more than double the number of non-executives on the board, which currently comprises the chair, two executive directors and two non-executive directors. They come as HIAL works with the Scottish Government’s Public Service Reform programme and amid a wider debate about air links for the region.
“There is an important discussion under way about how best to ensure the Highlands and Islands have the air connections their communities and economies need,” said HIAL chair Chris Holliday.
Ministers want candidates with experience of safe and effective operations in the airport, aviation or aerospace sector, of human resources and people development including work with trade unions, or of business more generally.
Lived experience of the communities HIAL’s airports serve, and an understanding of the issues facing island and rural communities, are among the criteria. Holliday said the board would welcome applicants who have not served on a board before.
Applications are made through the Scottish Government’s recruitment site and close at 17:00 on November 16.
HIAL is owned by the Scottish Government and runs 11 airports across the Highlands, the Northern Isles and the Western Isles, including Inverness, Kirkwall and Sumburgh.
