Trip.com Group (NASDAQ:TCOM, HKEX:9961) has launched a My Travel Impact dashboard as a survey found 75.4% of travellers call sustainability important, the company said on October 27.

The gap between intent and booking is where online travel agencies are now competing. Some 56.8% of respondents said they deliberately choose more sustainable options, and 64.2% said sustainable offerings would influence which platform they book through, but higher prices remain the most cited barrier at 37.1%.

The new feature in the Trip.com app pulls three types of choice into one view: nights at hotels carrying Trip.com’s Certified Sustainable label, which rests on third-party certification, estimated emissions avoided by picking lower-emission flights using the Travel Impact Model recommended by Travalyst, and estimated savings from taking rail instead of a petrol car.

“We believe every journey can make a difference,” said Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group.

The 2026 Sustainable Travel Consumer Report surveyed 8,777 people across 29 markets in four regions. Clear sustainability labels topped the list of what travellers want from booking platforms at 41.6%, and 32.7% asked for a dashboard showing the carbon impact of their bookings.

Environmental responsibility (52.5%) and preserving destinations for future generations (50.8%) were the main motivations. Inconvenience was cited as a barrier by 29.8% and difficulty identifying sustainable options by 27.1%.

Good public transport would most increase interest in a destination, cited by 56.0%, ahead of protection of natural and cultural heritage on 50.6%. Lesser-known destinations with fewer crowds appealed to 32.7%.

Weather is already changing plans. Some 62.0% of travellers had altered a trip because of extreme weather, with 29.9% delaying or rescheduling and 21.9% switching destination.

Younger travellers are furthest ahead: 69.5% of Gen Z said they intentionally chose sustainable options, against 40.6% of Boomers. The findings follow Booking.com’s 2027 travel predictions, published this week.

Trip.com Group owns Trip.com, Ctrip, Skyscanner and Qunar. Founded in 1999, it listed on Nasdaq in 2003 and in Hong Kong in 2021.
