Travel marketplace Wego has signed a partnership with Tourism Malaysia to promote the Southeast Asian destination to travellers across the Middle East and North Africa, the company announced on July 6.
The tie-up comes ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, as the country courts higher-spending MENA travellers who have made it one of the region’s most sought-after long-haul destinations.
The agreement will see the two organisations collaborate on targeted campaigns and destination storytelling covering Kuala Lumpur, the heritage streets of George Town, the beaches of Langkawi and the rainforests of Sabah and Sarawak, alongside the country’s culinary traditions. The stated aim is to convert travel inspiration into bookings.
Wego describes itself as the largest online travel marketplace in MENA, allowing travellers to search, compare and book flights and hotels across hundreds of airlines, hotels and online travel agencies. The company, dual-headquartered in Singapore and Dubai, also operates the WegoPro business travel platform and the WegoBeds bedbank.
“Malaysia has consistently ranked among the most sought-after destinations for travellers from the MENA region,” said Mamoun Hmidan, chief business officer at Wego. “The country offers a remarkable combination of culture, nature, gastronomy, and leisure that few destinations can match.”
Zaidi Kassim, director of Tourism Malaysia in Jeddah, said the partnership would bring the destination to a wider audience. “Together, we look forward to welcoming more visitors from the Middle East and sharing the warmth, richness, and spirit of hospitality that defines the Malaysian experience,” he said.
Why it matters for the trade
For the MENA outbound market, the partnership signals intensifying competition among Southeast Asian destinations for Gulf travellers, who typically stay longer and spend more than source markets closer to Malaysia.
