Amadeus is adding travel protection to its iHotelier hotel booking system through providers battleface and Sensible Weather, the company said on October 20.

The integration will let hotels sell protection during the booking process without administering their own programmes. It extends an Amadeus service already offered through airlines and travel sellers.

Sensible Weather provides guarantees that pay automatic compensation when specified weather conditions occur during a guest’s stay. Travellers can continue their trip, with payments triggered by qualifying conditions rather than a conventional insurance claim.

Hotels receive a share of revenue from each guarantee sold. The announcement cited improved booking conversion among participating hotels, without providing a sample size or study methodology.

Battleface supplies insurance for eligible travellers, with options covering cancellation, delays, medical emergencies and lost baggage, alongside emergency assistance.

Its products are available to eligible customers from the US, UK, EU, Canada and Mexico. Cover and eligibility depend on the product’s terms.

The iHotelier development adds to travel companies’ efforts to expand digital booking services. SalamAir also announced an Amadeus distribution agreement on October 20 to widen access to its fares and services.
