Mexican low-cost airline Viva has restarted direct flights between Cancún and Acapulco, linking two of the country’s biggest beach destinations, the airline said on November 3.
The direct service runs twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and adds to the two weekly one-stop flights Viva already operates between the cities via Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) near Mexico City, on Thursdays and Sundays. The route connects Mexico’s south-east with the Pacific coast and serves the large community of people from Guerrero living in Quintana Roo.
“This direct route opens the opportunity for our brothers and sisters from Guerrero, of whom we have a large community here in the state, to go home and visit their families,” said Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama.
The first flight was seen off at Cancún International Airport by Lezama; Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, mayor of Benito Juárez; Noé Peralta Herrera, Acapulco’s tourism secretary; and Jesús Horacio González, Viva’s vice president of corporate affairs.
Viva said the direct flights would open up holiday, family, business and work travel between the two regions. Cancún’s airport, run by ASUR, is one of Mexico’s busiest airports.
Viva is a Mexican low-cost airline based in Monterrey, operating domestic and international routes across Mexico, the US and Latin America.
