Guyana received 47,726 visitors in October, its highest total for the month, up 12.8% year on year, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) said on November 5.
Arrivals for January-October reached 408,349. That leaves 91,651 visitors needed in November and December to reach the authority’s 500,000 target for 2026, a figure below two months at October’s level.
Leisure travel accounted for 59% of October arrivals. Business travel made up 17% and other purposes 24%.
The GTA tied the growth to leisure, business and international events. October’s calendar included the Bethune Round Table, the Caribbean Shipping Association’s 56th annual general meeting, conference and exhibition, and the Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference and Financing Forum.
The authority said the events supported hotels, transport, food and other tourism businesses.
The country has also set out plans to become a regional flight hub as air links grow.
The US was the largest source market in October with 37.7% of arrivals. The Caribbean followed with 33.9%, then Latin America with 9.3%, Canada with 7.1% and Europe with 5.5%.
