Hilton (NYSE:HLT) opened a 257-room Homewood Suites and Hampton dual-brand hotel in San Juan, taking its open and planned Caribbean hotels past 100, it said on November 4.

Hilton has nearly 60 open hotels in the Caribbean, so the rest of that total sits in its development pipeline. The San Juan property is its first dual-brand development in the region and the city’s first new-build hotel project in more than five years.

The group plans to nearly double its Puerto Rico portfolio to about 25 hotels, with projects in San Juan, Ponce, Fajardo, Dorado and Arecibo.

“Today, our established portfolio of nearly 60 hotels provides a foundation for accelerated growth,” said Kolin Pound, Hilton’s area president for the Caribbean and Latin America.

The new hotel sits in central San Juan near the Puerto Rico Convention Center and DISTRITO T-Mobile. It marks the Homewood Suites by Hilton brand’s debut in Puerto Rico.

In the Dominican Republic, DoubleTree by Hilton Punta Cana Downtown is due by the end of 2026, followed by Tru by Hilton Punta Cana in 2027. DoubleTree by Hilton Curaçao is also slated for 2027.

Tranquility Beach Resort Dominica, Curio Collection by Hilton, will be the group’s first hotel in Dominica when it opens in 2028. Paradise Breeze Nassau, Curio Collection by Hilton, marks Hilton’s return to the island the same year.

Two Turks and Caicos luxury projects are scheduled for 2030. They are Waldorf Astoria Turks and Caicos Dellis Cay and AMARIS Grace Bay Turks and Caicos, LXR Hotels & Resorts.

The Caribbean update follows Hilton’s third-quarter results, published in October.

Hilton’s Caribbean history dates to the Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico, its first hotel outside the continental US.
