Intrepid Travel posts record September as Morocco leads demand

The adventure operator carried more than 35,000 customers, with Ecuador, Argentina and Uzbekistan its fastest-growing destinations.

Intrepid Travel carried more than 35,000 customers in September, its biggest September on record, with trip revenue up 11% year-on-year, the company said on October 20.

Morocco was the most popular destination, ahead of Vietnam and Italy, as travel to the Middle East picked up after uncertainty in the region earlier in the year. The fastest growth came from smaller markets: customers to Ecuador rose 93% y/y, Argentina 59% and Uzbekistan 40%. The UK was the second-largest source market, accounting for 22% of departures. The adventure operator certified under B Lab’s new B Corp standards in September.

The company said demand was driven by shoulder-season travel and locally led trips, with more customers seeking active and nature-based adventures and more families travelling with young children.

“September is always a popular month for travellers looking to enjoy the milder post-peak season temperatures across Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa, but this year the demand has been exceptional,” Chief Executive Officer James Thornton said. “Despite rising cost pressures and ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, travel remains a key aspiration for more and more people.”

Thornton said Intrepid’s Net Promoter Score finished ahead of target at 83.

The operator has launched more than 80 new trips for 2027, including itineraries in Turkey’s Black Sea region and Northern Spain’s Picos de Europa.

Founded in Melbourne in 1989, Intrepid is a certified B Corp running small-group trips led by local guides.
