The Students on Ice Foundation has opened applications for its 2027 ship-based expeditions, inviting young people aged 14 to 35 from Canada, the Arctic and around the world to apply by December 10, the Canadian charity said on November 4.
Applicants submit a single application to be considered for every 2027 expedition and are matched to the programme that best fits their background, leadership potential and interests. Details of next summer’s programmes are still being finalised.
Full scholarships covering programme fees and travel to and from gateway cities are available for most places, with a limited number of self-funded spots. Applications are online in English and French, with key materials translated into Inuktitut, and the foundation said it is seeking diversity across geography, ethnicity and gender, including Indigenous, Northern and under-represented youth.
Expeditions bring together young people, educators, scientists, Indigenous Elders and policy experts to explore climate change, marine ecosystems, sustainable communities and ocean literacy.
“An expedition is more than just a trip – it’s a transformative educational journey,” said Geoff Green, the foundation’s founder and president. “Youth gain a deeper understanding of critical global issues and return home with skills, confidence, and networks to create positive impact.”
Based in Gatineau, Quebec, the Students on Ice Foundation has run educational expeditions to the polar regions for 26 years, with more than 4,800 young people and educators from 53 countries taking part.
