Ethiopian Airlines has launched a three-times-weekly passenger service from Addis Ababa to Nacala in northern Mozambique, the carrier said on October 27.
Nacala is Ethiopian’s third Mozambican destination after Maputo and Beira. The route gives the port city a one-stop link to the airline’s network through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, and follows an African network push that added Mauritius earlier this year.
Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the airline “remains committed to connecting every corner of the continent with the rest of the world.”
The inaugural flight left Addis Ababa after a ceremony attended by senior government officials, stakeholders and Ethiopian executives.
Ethiopian said the service would strengthen trade and tourism links between Mozambique and the rest of the world. It did not name the aircraft type on the route.
The carrier has added several African points this autumn. It said on September 17 that it would start scheduled flights to Port Harcourt in Nigeria, and on September 29 that it would resume flights to Durban in South Africa.
Ethiopian first announced the Nacala service on September 16.
