Hilton (NYSE:HLT) has opened Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, a 268-suite hotel in the city’s Golden Triangle and the brand’s first in Malaysia, the company said on October 29.

The hotel carries 3,745 square metres of event and gathering space. Its 1,545-square-metre Grand Ballroom holds up to 2,500 guests for receptions, giving the capital’s luxury tier a new large-scale venue for weddings and corporate events. The opening came in the same week Hilton reported its third-quarter results.

Suites range from 80 to 745 square metres. Design firm Deboss Collective used natural stone and warm timber throughout, with joinery drawing on Malay marquetry.

“Waldorf Astoria has long represented the pinnacle of luxury, with a heritage of setting the standard for exceptional hospitality around the world,” said Alan Watts, President, Asia Pacific at Hilton. “Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur carries that legacy forward in the heart of the Golden Triangle, with an all-suite experience that brings a distinctive residential character to one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.”

The art collection was curated with the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. The hotel’s signature clock, a fixture of every Waldorf Astoria, takes its geometry from historic Islamic astrolabes in the museum’s collection.

Chef Garima Arora is behind Yaari, the hotel’s Indian restaurant. Jean-Georges Vongerichten has three concepts on site: JG KL, abc kitchens KL and The Bar by JG.

“Kuala Lumpur’s cultural richness and energy make it a compelling setting for Waldorf Astoria’s Malaysian debut,” said Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and Category Head, Hilton Luxury Brands.

The Waldorf Astoria Spa spans 2,275 square metres across two floors and offers La Prairie treatments.
