IHG Hotels & Resorts (LSE:IHG) has signed Garner Hotel Tashkent, the first hotel under its midscale Garner brand in Uzbekistan, the group said on October 28.
The 100-room hotel will also be Garner’s first in Central Asia. All 64 open Garner hotels are in Europe, and the brand has 24 more in its pipeline, according to IHG figures as of September 30.
Developer Silk Road Inn LLC is building the hotel on Temiryulchilar Street, close to Tashkent International Airport and the city centre. It is scheduled to open in September 2027. Tashkent is the country’s main business, administrative and transport hub.
IHG already operates four hotels in the Uzbek capital: InterContinental Tashkent, voco Tashkent, Crowne Plaza Tashkent and Holiday Inn Tashkent City. The signing adds midscale supply in a country that plans 30 new tourism zones by 2030.
“As the first Garner hotel in Central Asia, it brings a distinctive, high-quality and affordable stay proposition to a market where demand for internationally branded midscale accommodation continues to grow,” said Willemijn Geels, IHG’s vice president of development for Europe.
“The brand’s focus on quality, comfort and value is well suited to the needs of travellers visiting the city,” said Shokhrukh Khasanov, chief executive of Silk Road Inn LLC.
IHG markets Garner to owners as a conversion-friendly brand with flexible design standards and reduced pre-opening costs. Guests get a complimentary welcome drink and snack, bean-to-cup coffee and a 24/7 Garner Shop. IHG said demand in Tashkent spans corporate, government, diplomatic, project-related, transit and leisure travel.
