Royal Jordanian, hotels association sign deal to drive tourism to Jordan

Royal Jordanian and the Jordan Hotels Association (JHA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote Jordan as a tourism destination and drive inbound travel, the carrier said.

The deal points to a tighter alignment between Jordan’s national airline and its hotel sector, as the country works to grow tourism against a backdrop of regional instability that has weighed on visitor numbers across the Middle East.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Royal Jordanian chief commercial officer Karim Makhlouf and Jordan Hotels Association chairman Hussein Helalat, alongside board members and executives from both organisations.

The partnership supports collaboration across international tourism promotion, travel trade engagement, market intelligence and industry development, while advancing ExploRJordan, Royal Jordanian’s digital tourism platform connecting international travellers with curated experiences across Jordan.

By combining Royal Jordanian’s expanding international network with the association’s hospitality expertise, the partnership aims to raise Jordan’s visibility in key global markets, attract new visitor segments and support the growth of the tourism sector.

Why it matters for the trade

The airline-plus-hotels tie-up is a familiar structure, but its value depends on execution, and the detail worth watching is ExploRJordan. A carrier running its own booking platform that bundles flights with curated in-destination experiences is moving beyond seat sales into destination merchandising, and folding the hotel association into that gives the platform inventory and credibility it would otherwise lack.

For agents, the question is whether ExploRJordan becomes a trade-facing tool they can sell through, or a direct-booking channel that competes with them. The MoU’s explicit mention of travel trade engagement suggests the former, but the terms will decide it.
