Ten Slovenian destinations have been named among the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2026, as the country hosts the organisation’s global conference, the Slovenian Tourist Board said on October 29.

The listing comes ten years after Slovenia became the first country to be recognised as a green destination under Green Destinations standards. Its national Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism now covers more than 300 destinations and tourism providers, and six destinations, including conference host Kranj, hold the top Slovenia Green Platinum label.

The ten are Bohinj, Kranj, Krško, Ljubljana, Moravske Toplice, Ormož, Pohorje, Radlje ob Dravi, the Šalek Valley and Škofja Loka. Their projects range from zero-waste hotels and regenerated former mining landscapes to living traditions and community-led conservation.

“I am delighted that the global Green Destinations conference has returned to Slovenia after ten years,” said Maja Pak Olaj, director of the Slovenian Tourist Board.

Pak Olaj said the board was integrating the Green Scheme with the National Tourism Information Hub (NiST), so it could monitor sustainability impacts more closely and make data-driven decisions.

The Green Destinations Global Conference 2026 ran from October 27-29 at Brdo pri Kranju. Slovenia’s connections to North America improve next year, when United launches flights from Newark to Ljubljana.

The Slovenian Tourist Board is the national organisation responsible for promoting Slovenia as a tourism destination.
