Aircraft lessor Icelease has agreed with Boeing to convert one 767-300 into a freighter, with options for two more, Boeing said on November 2.

Boeing will carry out the work at ST Engineering’s airframe MRO facilities in Singapore. The first aircraft is due for induction in the first quarter of 2027, with delivery in the second quarter. The two companies signed the deal on October 22 at the Cargo Facts Symposium.

The 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter carries 57 tonnes of payload over 3,300 nautical miles. Boeing describes it as the world’s most efficient medium widebody converted freighter.

Sigthor Einarsson, managing partner of Icelease, said the agreement “marks an important milestone for both Icelease” and its Dublin-based sister company, IAT Leasing. He said Icelease’s relationship with Boeing goes back more than 20 years.

“Icelease is an important partner for our Boeing Converted Freighter programs,” said Lindsey Douglas, Boeing’s vice president for cabin, modifications, maintenance and digital services.

Freighter capacity is also growing among Gulf carriers. flydubai launched dedicated freighter operations in October.

IAT Leasing, incorporated in late 2023, has about 40 narrowbody and widebody passenger and cargo aircraft on lease to airlines worldwide, including seven 737-800 converted freighters.
